Dating sucks in Japan

Japan is a culture of busy bodies, I think. Everybody is in a rush to go somewhere. Advanced booking is generally a must. It is very common to schedule a meeting with your friends a month in advance.   In Mongolia, it is unheard of to schedule a hangout. Usually, I would call up my friend and ask if they would like to go out or have coffee. It is very common to go over to my friend's place to hang out. Impromptu is everywhere.   So, because we are living in a scheduled society, dating sucks in Japan. Recently, a friend of mine recommended I open a Bumble account. I was hesitant at first because I had been catfished through a similar application. But I am giving it a try.   It is very weird to schedule a date a month in advance. Ok it is okay to schedule a date in a week or two, but a month advance feels weird. Also, I still feel hesitant to meet up because I am IMAGINING everything to go bad. My mind is saying prepare for the worst.   Then I remember Brené Brown’s TE...

Getting ill from the Lunar New Year Celebration

Getting home on Sunday evening from our Lunar New Year celebration, I started to feel sick. The funny thing is that I know what I ate that made me ill. It was the good old lamb meat.

Living in Japan, I mostly eat beef, pork, and chicken. Sometimes, I cook internal organs such as the liver or heart.

For the celebration, my cousin and his girlfriend cooked some lamb meat. I had a few pieces along with the famous buuz. Halfway through the dinner, my stomach started to bloat, and it began to feel very uncomfortable. Right then, I knew I was going to be sick.

I got home fine and started to continue working on the small gifts that I was making for my students, who were graduating in a couple of weeks. Slowly, my stomach started to act up. My visits to the toilet increased and I felt sick every time I sat in front of the toilet ready to vomit. After a couple of hours, it happened, everything that I ate for dinner.

Very random question, how do I know that I am vomiting? My mouth started to produce very watery saliva. Then there is that feeling everything is getting pushed up.

So, everything was out. I blew my nose until my nostrils were clear of any debris from the disgusting action. Then, I had a cup of warm water and fell asleep.

The next day, I slept most of the day. I was watching the new Despicable Me and fell asleep. That happened twice. I still haven't watched the movie in full. I drank a lot of fluid that day and slept.

That was my celebration of the Lunar New Year and how I greeted my zodiac animal.
